Akin to Zinfandel but bigger in style, well-balanced and smooth. A perenial top seller here.

Italian Primitivo and California Zinfandel are genetically linked like brothers. Zin is better known, but in his vineyard, Nello grows Primitivo. Its grapes ripen earlier and are small, resulting in condensed flavors and more extracted tannins so it evolves with age. Zin may be for everyone. Nello’s Primitivo is for those who enjoy the difference.

Deep colors, flush with juicy raspberry, plums, blackberry, some leather and spice. 

Less formal than some single-varietal reds, Primitivo makes easy friends with pizza, cured meats, brats, burgers, main-dish vegetables and aged cheeses.
