Sagrantino is rarely grown outside Umbria, the region in Italy that is Nello’s ancestral home. Its grapes carry a high tannic structure similar to pure cocoa, and its wine has the highest antioxidant content of any wine.

Grown in the higher Foothill elevations with warm days and cool nights, this Cabernet Sauvignon tends to be slow ripening with smaller berries, lending to complex flavors, deep colors and higher tannins.

I the 1970's a renegade Italian winemaker created the first Super Tuscan by breaking the rules.  He blended Sangiovese- the holy gail of Italian wines-with non-Italian Cabernet.  Nello joins the creative blending rebellion each year with a new Super Tuscan style wine fusion.  This 2019 entry unites Barbera and Sangiovese with hints of Merlot and Petite Sirah for a surprising, well balanced, and mouth-watering rule bender.

Nello could brag that his Barbera wins big awards like Double Gold, Best of Class, Best Red of Show and so on. But he focuses on Barbera as an everyday people’s wine. It is enjoyed young, tastes great chilled, and makes an easy classy food wine.

Though it has a French name, Nello’s Petite Sirah has a big brawny Italian soul that matches his passion for intense wines that evolve with age.

This Southern Italian cousin to Zinfandel is so genial and outgoing, you may not find a better companion for BBQ’d meats, robust pastas, even pizza. PAIRS well with intense flavors, ethnic spices, caramelized onion, fire-roasted peppers & veggies, baked beans. Intense bright and complex fruit, blueberry, red currant, fruity finish. Deep garnet. Medium dry, medium body, & tannins.

Our estate Viognier, a classy crisp, less buttery alternative to Chardonnay. Straw yellow in color. Full body and dry with medium acidity. Aromatic and fresh, brings to the nose and the palate: orange blossom, mandarin, apricot and mango with honeyed stone fruit on the finish. After almost going extinct in the 1960s, Viognier now grows throughout the wine world and has thrived in Nello’s Gold-country vineyard since 2001. Due to its dense body, Viognier (“vee-own-yay”) has been referred to as "the red-wine-lover’s white" and has been known in Italy to be added to bolster red wines. PAIR with foods that are not acidic or too bold. Light meats, seafood, light savory dishes, light herbs, salads with fruit and nuts, soft cheeses.
